BOULDERING SEASON - [may be adjusted due to COVID-19]

Bouldering: a number of individual, short routes or “problems,” are attempted without a climbing rope, but with landing mats for protection.

Bouldering qualifier season runs from November through December. Youth competitors are required to compete in a minimum of one USA Climbing sanctioned bouldering qualifier competition and will be awarded rank points based on place at those competitions. The Regional Ranking of each climber who holds a Competitor membership at the time of the comp will be based on her/his best V point total score from among all of the QE competitions in which s/he participated during the season as a Competitor member. As each Bouldering QE is completed, the ranked list of all Regional competitors in a category will be updated on the USA Climbing website.

At the end of the Bouldering Qualification season, the top 25 competitors with Competitor memberships per category per gender will qualify for Regionals. Those who are pre-qualified for Regionals, if ranked within the top 25, will provide a pass down to the next highest ranked competitor(s).

For more information on the “virtual” bouldering qualification series, please click here.

LEAD/TOP ROPE SEASON - [may be adjusted due to COVID-19]

Lead/Top Rope: routes are climbed on lead or top-rope, with the competitor belayed from below. For lead, each quickdraw is clipped sequentially. Lead/Top Rope qualifier season runs from February through mid-April. Youth competitors are required to compete in a minimum of one USA Climbing sanctioned sport qualifier competition and will be awarded rank points based on place at those competitions. Each competitor’s Top 2 ranks will be used to determine Regional rankings.

At the end of the Lead/Top Rope Qualification season, the top 25 competitors with Competitor memberships per category per gender will qualify for Regionals. Those who are pre-qualified for Regionals, if ranked within the top 25, will provide a pass down to the next highest ranked competitor(s).

SPEED SEASON - [may be adjusted due to COVID-19]

Speed: routes are attempted on top-rope, with the competitor on auto-belay. Competitors are ranked based on how long it takes them to climb a specific route (usually standardized).

Speed competitors are required to attend youth qualification speed trial competitions from mid-October to mid-April. They must also purchase a USAC Competitor or Introductory Membership to be eligible to register for the qualification trials. Only times set at youth qualification speed trial competitions, while holding a Competitor Membership, will count toward qualification for the Youth National Speed Championship Qualification. There will be no credit for competitions while holding an Introductory membership.
