USA Climbing Celebrates Youth Athletes and Recognizes Excellence in the Climbing Community

 

USA Climbing Celebrates Youth Athletes

At the end of every season, USA Climbing recognizes athletes who have competed in a Youth National Championships every year for at least nine years from the Youth D category (11 years-old) to the Junior category (19 years-old).

Sam McQueen – Sunnyvale, CA
Ariana O’Brien – Boulder, CO
Ellery Osborne – Dallas, TX
Victoria Siegel – Portland, OR

“To compete at the highest level for so many years is a very impressive accomplishment and deserves to be celebrated,” said John Muse, VP of Sport. “We are very proud of these amazing athletes who have been involved with USA Climbing from a young age.”

Beyond the 12 athletes identified above, USA Climbing celebrates all of the athletes who are moving out of USA Climbing’s youth categories. In total, 612 climbers have finished their last year of Junior eligibility. The full list of athletes can be found here.

“Youth is the core of our climbing community,” said Marc Norman, CEO. “We thank these athletes for their dedication and participation and we are excited to see them move on to our Collegiate and Adult series.”

USA Climbing Recognizes Excellence in the Climbing Community

USA Climbing is introducing a new best-of-season awards to celebrate and recognize contributions across the entirety of the climbing community. The new awards are for: 

  • Distinguished Service
  • Athlete of the Year 
  • Teammate of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • Routesetter of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Gym of the Year
  • Event of the Year

“We cannot succeed without the tireless efforts and passion of our community,” said Marc Norman, CEO. “These awards will celebrate those who keep our sport vibrant and exciting.” 

Award nominations are due by August 20, 2020. Submissions will be reviewed by an award selection group and USA Climbing will announce all winners on September 20, 2020.
