USA Climbing Board of Directors Unanimously Approves Regional Realignment

Salt Lake City, July 1, 2020 - The USA Climbing Board of Directors unanimously voted to approve the Realignment Task Force (“RTF”) recommendations regarding regional realignment for the Youth and Collegiate series. The RTF was formed to review the geographic structure of USA Climbing’s regions and divisions to better align the organization for inclusiveness, athlete well-being, growth, and international success. The RTF Charter and Procedures can be found here. The RTF recommendations, which are scheduled to go into effect October 1, 2020 for the 2020-2021, season can be viewed below:

“A big thank you to the RTF who spent considerable time gathering feedback from numerous constituents including significant input from our Regional Coordinators. The RTF conducted a thorough review of climbing gyms capabilities to host events and member geographic locations in an effort to balance competitor numbers across regions and address growing participation numbers”, said Marc Norman, Chief Executive Officer. “Again, I can’t thank the RTF enough for their tremendous work in ensuring our sport is well-positioned for future growth.”

“As our sport continues to grow, one of the challenges our Regions face is the large and uneven growth of competitive members on an annual basis”, said John Muse, VP of Sport.  “The goal every four years is to redraw the regional boundaries to maintain a fair and balanced competitive structure and we support and believe the RTF recommendations will do just that.”

While the RTF recommendations were developed with extensive constituent input, USA Climbing recognizes there will be questions and values member feedback. If you have questions, please review the Frequently Asked Questions here, or please share your thoughts via rtf@usaclimbing.org.
