USA Climbing announced today that Sender One in Los Angeles, California has been selected to host the 2020 Pan-American Continental Championships. The Continental Championships will take place February 27th through March 1st, 2020. The event will serve as the final qualifying event for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Olympic hopefuls from North America, Central America, and South America will compete for the chance to represent their country when climbing makes its debut at the Olympics. The highest ranked athlete per gender in the Combined rankings will be awarded one of the eighteen qualification spots for the Games.
“On behalf of USA climbing, I would like to thank Sender One LAX for hosting this important final Olympic Qualifying event,” said Marc Norman, Chief Executive Officer of USA Climbing. “This competition will give our Olympic hopefuls one last opportunity to qualify for the Olympics and to have it on US soil is immensely beneficial towards securing any remaining spots for US athletes. We look forward to working closely with Sender One and in exposing LA’s Olympic Committee and local athletes to elite competition climbing as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games.”
