USA Climbing is thrilled to announce today the addition of Maureen Beck and Meagan Martin as new Athlete Directors to the USA Climbing Board of Directors.
As announced in November, USA Climbing is expanding the Board of Directors from 10 to 15 Directors and the athlete voice on the Board will expand from 20% to 33.3%, the most significant change to athlete engagement since its founding.
“As we work to better serve the entirety of our climbing community and align with US Olympic and Paralympic Committee best practices, we are honored to add two highly respected athletes and leaders in Maureen and Meagan,” said Marc Norman, USA Climbing CEO. “Both individuals bring a wealth of expertise, insight and energy that will be a welcome addition to our Board of Directors.”
Maureen “Mo” Beck is based in Colorado’s Front Range and works closely with the adaptive climbing community as an instructor with Paradox Sports and is the Chair of the USA Climbing Paraclimbing Committee. As a competitive climber, she won six national titles and two gold medals at the Paraclimbing World Championships. After an expedition to the Northwest Territories Cirque of the Unclimbables, she was named one of National Geographic’s 2019 Adventurers of the Year.
“I’m honored to represent the Paraclimbing community on the USA Climbing Board of Directors,” said Beck. “This position will give us the ability to continue to push the future of the Paraclimbing series to greater heights. I’m looking forward to beginning my work with the other Board members.”
Meagan Martin is a professional rock climber, ESPN commentator, Athleta model, star of American Ninja Warrior, and a former Division I Pole Vaulter at Vanderbilt University who currently lives in Sacramento, CA. She has contributed to USA Climbing in many roles as an athlete, coach, commentator and member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force.
“It was by luck that I found climbing, and it has completely shaped my life,” said Martin. “I am so excited to join the Board and get the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth and success of USA Climbing and its members.”
