Today, the IOC Executive Board confirmed the inclusion of Sport Climbing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“We are excited for the confirmation of Sport Climbing’s continued inclusion and expansion of the program in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” said Marc Norman, Chief Executive Officer. “We want to specifically thank the IOC for their trust in our sport, the IFSC, most notably Marco Scolaris, Debbie Gawrych, and the entire Executive Board for their tireless efforts with the IOC, and the other National Federations for their hard work to help achieve this goal. With Speed climbing becoming an independent discipline while Bouldering and Lead climbing form a new combined discipline in Paris 2024, we believe Sport Climbing is on a great trajectory within the Olympic movement. USA Climbing looks forward to both to our inaugural Olympics in Tokyo and now our expanded presence in Paris.”
The Paris 2024 program expands on what viewers will see in the Tokyo 2020 Games. The number of athletes will expand to 68 from the 40 that will compete in Tokyo. It also increased the number of medal events from two to four.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place July 26 to August 11, 2024.
