Deadline Extended to Submit Interest to Serve as USAC Representatives to the US Olympic Committee Athletes' Advisory Council

To USA Climbing Athletes,

USA Climbing USA Climbing is still seeking athletes to serve as USAC Representatives to the US Olympic Committee Athletes' Advisory Council (USOC AAC) The deadline to express your interest has been extended to December 7, 2018.

Per Article 12 of the USAC Bylaws, USAC Representative must be elected from eligible USAC athletes. We invited eligible athletes to express their interest per the procedures below. 
 
About the USOC AAC

The mission of the USOC AAC is to communicate the interests and protect the rights of athletes, in cooperative support of the USOC achieving its mission. Further detail on the USOC AAC can be found at  www.teamusa.org/Athlete-Resources/Athletes-Advisory-Council.

Term of the USAC Representative to the USOC AAC
 
Because this election is being held midway through the current Olympic Quadrennium, the first USAC Representative and Alternate to the USOC AAC will serve a two-year term from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. The subsequent USAC Representative and Alternate will be elected for a four-year term corresponding to the new Olympic Quadrennium running January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ATHLETE CANDIDATES TO RUN AND TO VOTE

Eligibility requirements for athletes to stand for election and to vote in these elections are detailed below.

PLEASE READ THESE CAREFULLY. Eligible athletes must:

  1. Be a citizen or legal resident of the United States
  2. Reach the age of 18 by December 31, 2018
  3. Represented the United States as an Athlete in the Olympic Games or International Federation of Sport Climbing World Championships within the ten (10) year period prior to December 31, 2018.

Per the USOC AAC Bylaws; Section 4,A,1,b: Athletes may not be drawn from events that categorize entrants by age-restricted classifications commonly known as "Juniors", "Masters", "Seniors", "Veterans" or other similar age restricted competition.

INVITATION TO USAC ATHLETES

Any USA Climbing Athlete meeting the eligibility requirements for election (above) is invited to express their interest in becoming a candidate for the USAC Representative to the USOC Athletes' Advisory Council.

Election Process

This election will follow the required three-step Athlete Election process:

  1. Invitation to Athletes (this announcement)
  2. Expression of Interest by eligible athletes
  3. Election by voting of all USAC athletes eligible to vote

Voting in this election will begin December 10, 2018 and end December 21, 2018. This candidate with the highest vote total will be elected USOC AAC Representative, and the candidate with the next highest vote total who is of the opposite gender will be elected USOC AAC Alternate Representative.

DEADLINE: Because of the holidays and championship competitions, the deadline for submissions has been extended. Documents must be received no later than 5:00pm MST, December 7, 2018
