On Friday of last week, the IFSC used the documents here and here to announce the addition of the “Combined” categories to the 2017 World Youth Championships. With this announcement, we have a responsibility to try and provide a minimum of 2 athletes per gender/category in their new “Combined” category. In conjunction with Rules Committee, this is what we’re going to do for 2017 WYC and 2017 Pan Am Championships in Montreal:
- We are going to fill 2 spots in Combined in every category.
- In those categories where we have a reigning All Around World Champion or All Around Continental Champion, we will register one additional Combined athlete.
- We will use the ranking point values from placement at Youth Bouldering Nationals, Youth Sport Nationals, and Youth Speed Nationals. This is the same ranking point values that we use for Team Championships and our Youth All – Around awards as announced at Sport & Speed Youth Nationals.
- We will only consider those athletes that competed at Youth Bouldering Nationals, Youth Sport Nationals, and Youth Speed Nationals.
This also means that we are issuing 2nd round invitations to those athletes that now qualify for 2017 World Youth Championships in their individual disciplines.
